I was in the car singing along with Elton John's "Tiny Dancer" - nice & loud to hear myself over the complaints of my 15-year-old in the back seat - when I realized: I've probably sung this song a hundred times (maybe more) and I'm really iffy on some of the lyrics.
Today, I finally took the few minutes to look them up. Here's where I've been going oh-so-wrong:
My version:
hold me closer tiny dancer
count the headlines on the highway
lay me down and she's a planet
you had a visitor today
Elton's version:
hold me closer tiny dancer
count the headlights on the highway
lay me down in sheets of linen
you had a busy day today
So now I know the words, although I'm wondering if I like my version better. When his tiny dancer was a planet and had a visitor, I sort of thought the song was about a crazy lady who'd been a groupie but was now in a mental hospital. Now I think it's just about a groupie he fell in love with.
Although I'm still not sure why she's in his hand.
It makes me wonder what other lyrics I've been getting wrong.

Jill, your blog makes me laugh out loud everytime I read it. Keep up the good work. I look forward to your next adventure everyday. I have to say that to date my favorite one is the music lyrics. I used to sing Whitney Houstons, "Binary Woman", just to have recently learned that it is, "I'm Every Woman". I think I like my version better! Thanks for the many many laughs.
LMAO How many songs have I butchered?

Does Elton say "she"?
I destroy lyrics, and sound aweful even in the shower! At Church they should lower a "cone of silence" over me so others do not need to suffer!
Love your blog.
Nice blog. Thats all.
