Life List Day 142 - Try Asiago Cheese

In restaurants, I'll often avoid dishes with unfamiliar cheeses for fear it'll be a stinky cheese - bleu, gorgonzola, etc. - none of which I like.

Today, I ordered roasted vegetables at a restaurant - even though it came covered with Asiago cheese, which I'd never heard of before.

Good choice!

The cheese was mild, kind of nutty, and totally yummy.

It makes me want to risk new cheeses in the future. Maybe even some day I'll learn to appreciate the stinky ones.

(Maybe. Someday.)

I actually buy Asiago instead of Parmesan most of the time now. There's just something about it that the Parm doesn't give to a dish. Yummers!

i'm with you on the unfamiliar names because i, too, hate blue cheeses. some good mild ones to try are manchego (from spain) jarlsberg (from norway) and windsor red (a british cheese that is basically cheddar with port. so yummy and it's a pretty reddish pink color.)

I have a to-die-for recipe for green-bean casserole (trust me--not your traditional) that involves asiago cheese. If you want the recipe, drop me an e-mail and I'll send it to you. :) faith(dot)stencel(at)gmail(dot)com
